With the new design of the First National Bank- Fox Valley web site, you now have quick and easy access to the information you are looking. However, there is another side to this release that we need to discuss, and that is how the “bad guys” are going to try to take advantage of you through “phishing” scams.
Webopedia defines phishing as: “phishing (fish´ing) (n.) The act of sending an e-mail to a user falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft. The e-mail directs the user to visit a web site where they are asked to update personal information, such as passwords and credit card, social security, and bank account numbers that the legitimate organization already has. The web site, however, is bogus and set up only to steal the user’s information.”
So in our case the “bad guys” will try to take advantage of our new web site design to try to convince you that you need to “re-sign up” or “verify your data” or some similar tactic to get you to divulge personal information. Please DO NOT fall for these scams. Financial institutions will not ask you for personal information in this fashion. If you receive email trying to entice you to give personal information, please ignore and promptly delete the email.
If you feel that it is something deserving our attention, please forward the email to our technical staff at abuse@fnbfoxvalley.com.
